The legendary John M. Chartz was the longest-serving  District Attorney, from 1912-1938 (with one timeout from 1916-18). During much of this time, he was both the city attorney for Carson City and Ormsby County District Attorney. He also acted as chief of Warren Engine Company No. 1, since 1863 the second oldest volunteer fire company on the West coast.
